Brea Canyon High School is the only continuation high school in the BOUSD. BCHS moved to its present location in 1989, but was established in 1978. The educational programs at Brea Canyon are designed to meet the customized needs of the students who learn best in a flexible education environment. For many of our students, their previous educational experience in a more traditional school setting (whether private or public) can be characterized as unsuccessful. When students arrive at Brea Canyon High School, many expect to continue being unsuccessful. Fortunately, they find that the schedule, course offerings, mentors, professionalism of teachers, small class sizes, and other resources contribute to their ability to achieve their academic goals to obtain a high school diploma.
Most students come to BCHS from the district’s one traditional high school, Brea Olinda High School. Students are referred to BCHS primarily because of credit deficiency, poor attendance, a lack of study skills, discipline and behavior issues, and/or substance abuse issues. Once students enroll at BCHSD, they begin to experience success due in part of the school’s focus on building positive assets at school, in the community, and at home.
